Mary Borgognoni Hoover

Mary Borgognoni HooverIn August 2015, Mary Borgognoni was appointed as the Senior Vice President for Operations and Finance at Niagara University, an independent institution of higher education located near Niagara Falls, NY and founded in the Catholic and Vincentian traditions. Her responsibilities include oversight of internal operations at Niagara including fiscal management and university budgeting, facilities and grounds, procurement, human resources, conferencing, contract training, events management sponsored programs and foundation relations. Prior to this role, she served as the Associate Vice President for Operations & Outreach with responsibilities for community engagement, fiscal management and governmental relations. During the 2012-2013 academic year, she served as the University’s Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement and oversaw the completion of the Niagara’s $80M comprehensive campaign “The Promise of Niagara.”

During her tenure at Niagara, Mary has been actively involved with numerous communityBorgognoni Hoover Graduation outreach initiatives including the establishment of a formal partnership between Niagara University and the Heart, Love & Soul, Inc. food pantry and community dining room. She spearheaded Niagara University’s collaboration with the city of Niagara Falls and local community activists to install new playground equipment and a pavilion at the Nor-Loc Park on Lockport Street in Niagara Falls, NY. Mary has provided leadership on several initiatives to maximize Niagara University’s resources on behalf of the community including a lecture and panel discussion focused upon the Underground Railroad Movement; a roundtable discussion by members of the New York State Assembly on the topic of “Emerging Workforce and High Tech Industries” and an academic symposium that explored the impact of higher education on the economic development of the Western New York region.

She has been employed at Niagara University for 19 years and previously held positions with the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations at the University at Buffalo, the Erie County Office of Budget and Management, the New York State Division of the Budget and the New York State Assembly.

Mary currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Health Association of Niagara County, the Board of Trustees of Nardin Academy in Buffalo, the advisory committee for the Buffalo Niagara Partnership’s “360 Degree” Young Professionals program, the Niagara County Workforce Investment Board and is chair of the Advisory Board of the Chi Omega Women’s Fraternity at the University of Rochester. She recently completed several terms on the Board of Directors of the Buffalo Niagara YMCA and the Board of Directors of Stella Niagara Education Park. She participated in the Leadership Niagara professional development program and the WNY Consortium of Higher Education Women’s Leadership Institute. In 2014, she was recognized as a “Woman of Distinction” by the Niagara Gazette.

Mary graduated from Canastota High School in 1979. In 1983, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and in 1986, a Master of Public Administration degree both from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.

She resides in Tonawanda, NY with her husband, Bruce Hoover, General Counsel for the West Herr Automotive Group. They have three children – Bret, a 2011 graduate of Canisius High School and 2015 graduate of DePaul University; Amelia, a 2014 graduate of Nardin Academy and current undergraduate at Auburn University; and Aubrey, a member of the Class of 2017 at Nardin Academy. She is a parishioner and catechist at St. Joseph’s University parish in Buffalo, NY.
