District and community partnerships meet to create innovative learning programs

Canastota Central School District and its community partners came together to discuss their successes and future goals. Ideas were shared between brilliant minds who all have the same goal, creating strong relationships for the benefit of students and the community.

Among many topics discussed were the next steps in creating an Innovative Learning Program as well as finding new connections between the district and community. A look back on the work of current partners was also showcased, in hopes of inspiring new partnerships.

Current partnerships include the International Boxing Hall of Fame, Syracuse Crunch and Greater Lenox Ambulance  Service. All of which have a badging program with the district, where students are awarded badges for   completing specific tasks. Last year, almost 800 badges   wereawarded to students. This year, the number of badges is expected to exceed 800.

Digital badges are a great way for students to create an e-portfolio which can be shown topotential employers and colleges. More than that, students get real life experience that can becarried on into their daily lives and careers. They also earn community service hours throughthese programs, receive job shadow opportunities, go on field trips, meet amazing guest speakers, attending leadership seminars, receive special training and more!
