Yearbook Staff 2019The Canastota Yearbook was named a Program of Excellence this year for the high-quality publication they create for students. It is the first time Canastota has been recognized for its yearbook and it is one of only 366 public and private schools in the nation to receive this honor.

Canastota is the only public school in Central New York, and one of only 10 in the state, to be included in this year’s National Yearbook Program of Excellence.

"I am incredibly proud of the yearbook staff this year. They worked so hard to ensure that our student body was represented. They took every assignment seriously, put their hearts into every task, and were committed to creating an excellent product," Art Teacher and Yearbook Co-Adviser Denise Whalen said.

The National Yearbook Program of Excellence recognizes engaging yearbooks that reflect a broad representation of the student body while helping students develop 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, and information and communication technologies literacy.

Schools do not apply for this program. They are selected by Josten’s, a yearbook publishing company, based on three key factors: including at least 50% of the student body in the publication three times; seeing a 5% growth in yearbook sales or having 70% of students purchase a yearbook; and effectively managing the project by meeting all deadlines. Winners receive a plaque and a banner to display at school.

This year’s yearbook staff members are Kacey Cashel, Skyler Donley, Jennifer Fiore, Logan Hood, Taylor Kutzuba, JoAnna Musacchio, Meghan O'Dell, Kendyl Oster, Jillian Whaley, Rielly White, and Garrett Whitmeyer. Mrs. Whalen’s co-adviser is Math Teacher Tanya Bowe.
