The Office for Pupil Personnel Services is responsible for the administration, coordination, supervision and operation of programs for students with disabilities requiring Individualized Educational Plans (IEP's) and students requiring Section 504 Plans.  In the event that a student is suspected of having an educational related disability that has an impact on their ability to learn they are referred to the Committee on Special Education (CSE) or Committee on Preschool Special Education(CPSE). These committees are responsible for evaluating and identifying students with special educational needs along with program planning and placements. 

 

Alternatively, students who have been identified as having a disability which may impact their access to the general education environment may be referred to the 504-committee in order to determine any necessary accommodations or support services. Please remember there are a variety of other interventions and supports for students in school through the RTI (Response to Intervention) and MTSS (Multi-tiered Systems of Support) Framework RTI and other interventions usually are put in place and progress monitored before a referral to the Committee on Special Education is made.

 

The Canastota Central School District provides a variety of programs and services for their students with special education needs(IEPs). All students have the opportunity to reach their full potential through a variety of different  programs and services. Canastota believes in educating their students in the least restrictive environment possible and offers a variety of services and programs within the district and in partnership with MOBoces. 

 

The Office of Pupil Personnel Services includes specially designed instruction for students that qualify along with related services such as psychological, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work, and speech and language services for any student experiencing academic and/or school challenges. Referrals to Student Services are made through each building’s Student Support Team. Parents who are concerned about their child’s school progress are encouraged to contact the child’s teacher or principal.

 

These services are not intended to replace community agency or private practitioner services needed for clinical diagnosis and/or long term counseling.
