Principal's Message

My name is Emily Nugent and I am the new Principal of South Side Elemetary School.

I have my undergraduate degree from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. I receiving my master's in Inclusive Special Education from Syracuse University. I've worked as an elementary special education teacher in Syracuse, serving in various capacities such as 12:1:1, 15:1, and as a consultant teacher and spent a few years teaching 4th and 5th grade in Cazenovia before transitioning to administration. I'm excited to become part of this Canastota community. My goals are to improve literacy scores, support educational initiatives in the district, and find new ways to assist students with SEL post Covid.

When I'm not working, I like to spend time hiking with my dogs Tucker and Duke. I'm also an avid fan of the Syracuse Orange and love spending time with family and friends.
