During the month of March, PSES and SSES students celebrated Canastota Reads by reading "The World According to Humphrey" by Betty G. Birney. To encourage participation, each student and staff member received a copy of the book, with the goal of sharing the experience with their families. This month-long reading challenge is designed to foster a community of readers within the schools and promote literacy-related activities.
Reading aloud at home is a valuable activity that better prepares children to be effective readers while also promoting family engagement. Throughout the month, students engaged in a shared conversation about the book, discussing it in various locations such as the classroom, cafeteria, gymnasium, and school bus.
Canastota Reads helps to strengthen the connection between the school and the community by encouraging everyone to share in the joy of reading and literacy-related activities.
