Canastota Battle of the Books

Canastota Battle of the Books

Some of our Canastota Battle of the Books teams recently participated in the MOBOCES Regional Battle of the Books, a program designed to foster a love of reading and encourage friendly inter-district competition.

MOBOCES librarians curated a list of books for students to choose from, and our school librarians served as team coaches, guiding students through the process of obtaining copies of the books, discussing content, and practicing quiz questions.

Starting in September, students read each book and met regularly to discuss their content and quiz each other. During the competition students are asked a series of questions about the content of the books they had read. Our 4th grade teams achieved an impressive victory, securing first, second, and fourth place out of ten teams, while our 7th and 8th grade team earned an impressive spot in third place!

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the participants and express our gratitude to Tracy Mammone and Mary Laverty for their invaluable assistance in facilitating this highly engaging and rewarding program.

The 6th grade Battle of the Books has been rescheduled for May 6th. Please stay tuned for further updates!
