Raider 1:1 Frequently Asked Questions
For the 2018-2019 school year, students in grades 9-12 will receive Chromebooks to use throughout the school day and at home. Grades 5 & 6 classrooms will also be outfitted with Chromebooks for each student, but they will not take them home. Instead, Chromebooks will be housed in classroom carts for overnight storage and charging. We hope to continue providing devices to additional grade levels during the 2019-2020 school year and beyond.
Students in grades 9-12 will receive Chromebooks based upon their schedule and/or enrollment in BOCES New Visions programs.
There is no cost for a student to receive a Chromebook. However, students will be charged an incident fee for accidental damage: $10 for the first incident, $20 for the second, $30 for the third, and $40 for the fourth and beyond. In addition, students may be charged the full replacement cost (up to $215) of the Chromebook if it is lost, stolen or beyond repair.
Families can also purchase optional insurance for the Chromebook. The $25 annual fee will cover accidental damages.
All students at participating grade levels will be provided with a district Chromebook. Students will be required to use district-provided Chromebooks during class periods.
If a Chromebook is damaged, students should notify the Technology Help Desk immediately. Repairs must be completed by district personnel; please do not bring Chromebooks to other repair locations.
If a Chromebook is lost or stolen, students should notify the building principal or assistant principal immediately. If the Chromebook is not recovered, the student may be responsible to pay the replacement cost for the devices, currently up to $215.
The district will keep a small inventory of Chromebook to loan to students while their Chromebooks are being repaired.
No. Student Chromebooks will be filtered by the district whenever they are connected to wi-fi, regardless of location (school or home).
Some Google Apps (Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets) are available offline. In addition, the district will have two Chromebooks with 3G data access that can be borrowed overnight for projects.
